The state Department of Health reports a ninth Tennessean has been sickened by the salmonella outbreak linked to tainted tomatoes.
Officials say a resident of Anderson County became ill but has since recovered. No tomatoes grown in Tennessee have been linked with the salmonella outbreak, which has affected more than 11-hundred people in more than 40 states.


Tennessee is on track to be one of the top three marijuana growing states this year. The skies over the Volunteer State are busy with helicopters this summer hunting for marijuana and have already destroyed more than 400,000 plants. The Governor's Task Force has 3-teams searching for marijuana everyday with the help of the T-B-I, Highway Patrol, Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the National Guard.


The Salvation Army sells items in the Volunteer State that people donate to support its drug treatment program helping people get their lives back on-track. Sales for the year is down nearly a quarter of a million dollars, so the Salvation Army has cut prices to compete with other thrift stores. The financial pinch has the charity considering cutting back on some of the meals they provide.


Tennesseans continue to feel the pain at the pump each time they pull in to fill up their vehicles. On Wednesday, Triple-A reported the average price per gallon in Chattanooga and Clarksville at 3-94 - a penny more in the Tri-Cities and Knoxville. Memphis came in on the low end of the scale at just 3-89 a gallon while Nashville topped the list, surpassing the four dollar a gallon mark.


An estimated 1-million Latinos registered to vote in time for the presidential primaries. The Tennessee Refugee and Immigrants Rights Coalition is pushing eligible immigrants to register and vote and is organizing voter registration and non-partisan voter education sessions, including training volunteers to register others to vote.


The average public library in the Volunteer State is housed in a building that's far too small for the community it's supposed to serve, and has far fewer materials in circulation than other libraries around the country, is understaffed by public librarians and weary community volunteers. Tennessee ranks almost dead last in the nation for local spending on public libraries.
