The Tennessee Department of Health
has confirmed the state's eighth case of Salmonella Saintpaul, the
strain associated with the current F-D-A advisory. This case involves
a resident of Davidson County, who is believed to have become ill in
early June, but has recovered. According to the C-D-C, nearly
a-thousand people in 40 states and the District of Columbia have been
associated with this multi-state outbreak.
Lottery E-mail Scam Alert
The Tennessee Lottery is asking
e-mail users to be aware of a fraudulent e-mail circulating nationwide
and in the Volunteer State suggesting recipients are prize winners.
The e-mails asks recipients for a payment to cover processing fees.
The Tennessee Lottery never requires fees to claim a prize and asks
that anyone, who receives such an e-mail or letter to disregard it.
Sales Tax Holiday Scheduled for
August
Tennessee’s third annual
August Sales Tax Holiday will begin on Friday, August 1st. During the
designated three-day weekend, consumers may purchase select clothing
with a price of 100 dollars or less per item, school and art supplies
at 100 bucks or less and computers with a price of 15-hundred or less
without paying Tennessee's state and local sales tax on the items.

Seems like location in the Volunteer
State makes a difference, when fueling up. Nashville gas is typically
the most expensive in the entire state. Gas per gallon is about
5-cents cheaper in Chattanooga and 6-cents cheaper in Memphis.
Tennesseans can control some of the bigger issues in their budgets
like groceries, but not rising gas prices.
New Findings in Salvation Poll
A newly released LifeWay poll
of 2,500 churchgoers contradicts a major finding of the U-S Religious
Landscape Survey from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. Pew
researchers found that most evangelicals held an inclusive view of
heaven, with 59 percent saying that many religions lead to eternal
life. Less than a third of evangelicals believed salvation could be
found outside Christianity.
Smoking Laws Challenged,
Lawsuit Thrown Out
U-S District Judge Curtis L.
Collier in Chattanooga found there was no basis for a lawsuit against
Governor Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee General Assembly. The lawsuit
challenges Tennessee's indoor smoking ban and a hike in the state's
cigarette tax to 62-cents a pack.

Production at Home
The Lynchburg distillery Jack
Daniel's is expanding operations thanks to a booming bourbon business.
Overseas customers have developed a taste for "Old Number 7." A
6-million dollar expansion will help the distillery meet the demands
of its U-S and overseas customers. Other bourbon makers like Wild
Turkey, Maker's Mark and Jim Beam are also in the midst of major
expansion projects.
