New Laws Apply To Younger People
A new law went into effect yesterday
lowering the legal age for blood donors to 16. Tennesseans wishing to
give blood had to be at least 17 previously. Administrators at the
Nashville Area Red Cross say the change could greatly increase their
donations. Plus, every newborn is now required to have a hearing
screening.
Tennessee Boating Safety
Tennessee is promoting boat safety
like wearing life jackets, avoiding carbon monoxide poisoning from
boat engines and staying clear of propellers. There are 4-million
boaters in the Volunteer State and authorities say if you become
impaired use a designated driver. The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration says every 39-minutes, someone dies because of an
impaired driver.

Independence Day, Alcohol, and the Law
A new message unveiled yesterday,
being driven home by state and local Police, as well as the Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency, is that drunken driving is against the law.
Last year, during the 4th of July holiday period, more than half died
in alcohol-related crashes. Authorities say always use a designated
driver. The 4th of July holiday is the 2nd most deadly holiday period
behind New Year's Eve. Law enforcement will be performing driver
license checks Friday morning on highway 78, and in Dyer County, a
sobriety checkpoint will be set up Friday night.
A Sanitary Reminder
The Dyersburg sanitation department
will take a holiday Friday... that being said, be sure to put your
garbage out on Thursday if your trash is picked up on Fridays.
