Rescue Squad Finds Solution To Funding
A MONTH AFTER PUTTING A STOP TO OPERATIONS, THE FULTON COUNTY VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD IS BACK IN SERVICE. LAST WEEK, THEY SETTLED ON BUYING A NEW SERVICE TRUCK, WITH THE COUNTY AGREEING TO SPENDING 30 THOUSAND DOLLARS... THE REMAINDER OF THE 65 GRAND WILL COME FROM FUNDRAISERS AND DONATIONS. THE NEW VEHICLE WILL REPLACE THE TWO OLD VEHICLES THE SQUAD CURRENTLY HAVE.


The Summer HEAT Is On...
THE THP WILL BE STEPPING UP TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND. SPECIAL EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED ON DUI ENFORCEMENT AS WELL AS SPEEDING, RECKLESS, AND AGGRESSIVE DRIVING. THERE WILL BE A DRIVER LICENSE CHECKPOINT ON HIGHWAY 78 FRIDAY MORNING, AND A SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT IN DYER COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT. ADDITIONALLY, Police IN TENNESSEE will focus on pulling over aggressive and impaired drivers along HIGHWAY 70 THIS weekend. The crackdown, known as ``Safe 70,'' will begin Thursday.

the Dyersburg sanitation department will take a holiday Friday... that being said, be sure to put your garbage out on Thursday if your trash is picked up on Fridays.


Department Store Files Chapter 11, Restructures
GOODY'S FAMILY CLOTHING HAS FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY, BUT WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE STORES. IN THE FILING, THEY REQUESTED TO CONTINUE BUSINESS AS USUAL AS THEY RESTRUCTURE THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION... WHICH INCLUDES CLOSING SEVERAL OF ITS STORES. THE ONLY STORES NEAR OUR REGION FACING THE DOWNSIZING ARE IN CLARKSVILLE, PADUCAH AND CARBONDALE. MANY JOBS HAVE BEEN LOST ON BOTH THE CORPORATE AND RETAIL LEVELS BECAUSE OF THE CHAPTER ELEVEN.


Cotton Hits 25 Year Low
THE US COTTON ACREAGE HAS HIT ITS LOWEST LEVEL IN 25 YEARS. In Tennessee, farmers continued to shift acres to higher-priced corn and soybeans from cotton. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in a report released Monday, estimated the country's total cotton acreage at 9.25 million acres, down 40-percent from last year. That's the lowest level since 1983.
