[GIBSON COUNTY ACCIDENT, WBBJ]
A GIBSON COUNTY MAN DIES WHILE ON THE JOB YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. WBBJ-TV REPORTS

ESTES WAS WORKING AT THE DYER LANDFILL WHEN THE TRAGIC ACCIDENT OCCURRED. DYER
POLICE, THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, ALONG WITH THE THP'S CRITICAL INCIDENT
RESPONSE TEAM ASSISTED IN THE INCIDENT. BECAUSE THE ACCIDENT WAS ON CITY
PROPERTY, O-S-H-A IS INVESTIGATING THE ACCIDENT. ESTES WAS A FRIEND TO MANY IN
DYER AND IN GIBSON COUNTY.

FROM TRN, In April, the Tennessee Department of Children's Services said it
faced a $73-million dollar withdrawl of federal funds. The state stepped-in with
$25-million, but that funding is about to dry up. Congress is fighting over
legislation that would cut millions of dollars from 33 states. D-C-S has
reorganized by transferring some mid-management personnel to work on the
frontlines with troubled kids.
[ANIMAL PROTECTION BILL, TRN]
Tennessee animal protection advocates are pleased with a new law requiring a
bittering agent in antifreeze. Antifreeze distributors must now add a bittering
agent giving it a repulsive smell and taste. Another new law allows trained
Animal Control Officers to administer a chemically treated dart to subdue an
animal. Plus, progress has been made in a bill that would make cockfighting a
felony.

Tough economic times could be contributing to a skyrocketing number of animals
being euthanized...Due to limited space...Metro Animal Control Officer Billy
Biggs says at times they've euthanized up to 60-animals a day. Biggs believes
tough financial times could be partly to blame and if the trend continues...they
may have to put down a record number of nearly 2,000 animals this month alone.

Al Gore is supporting Barack Obama and the former vice president says he will do
whatever he can to help him get to the White House. Gore says Obama has united a
movement over the past year and a half. He appeared with Obama last night at a
Detroit rally.
