A TEACHER AT RIPLEY HIGH SCHOOL IS ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH
HER STUDENTS. WBBJ-TV DOT COM REPORTS TEACHER AND FORMER GIRL'S SOFTBALL COACH
AMY ELDER HAS BEEN INDICTED ON CHARGES OF HAVING SEX WITH TWO OF HER PLAYERS.
THE 28-YEAR-OLD HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AFTER BEING INDICTED
ON 15 SEPARATE COUNTS OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT. PHILLIP JACKSON IS
SUPERINTENDENT OF LAUDERDALE COUNTY SCHOOLS...(SOT)...ACCORDING TO COURT PAPERS,
ELDER HAD SEX WITH A 17-YEAR-OLD GIRL SEVERAL TIMES IN 2006, AND WITH A
15-YEAR-OLD GIRL DURING THE PAST YEAR. ELDER IS CURRENTLY FREE ON HER OWN
RECOGNIZANCE BECAUSE OF NO PRIOR RECORD. SHE'S SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN RIPLEY
COURT OCTOBER 21ST.

The Tennessee State of Consumer Affairs says scammers are contacting people with notices that their car warranty is expired. Scammers are using postcards, letters and phone calls to sell over-priced warranties. The object is to scare consumers into giving up credit card numbers or bank account information.
[TN COMM UPGRADES, TRN]
Tennessee has been awarded
nearly $17-million dollars in federal grants by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security to help improve communications. The Public Safety Grants are meant to
upgrade responders' ability to communicate and coordinate during disasters.
Emergency Officials reported no major communications breakdowns in the aftermath
of violent storms in the state in February.

THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL WILL BE CONDUCTING A SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT TONIGHT. THE CHECKPOINT WILL BE IN DYER COUNTY ON STATE ROUTE TWO-ELEVEN.
