THE MILAN SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE
GETTING UPGRADES TO THEIR BUSES SOON. ACCORDING TO WBBJ TV DOT COM, FIVE OF THE
DISTRICT'S EIGHT BUSES WILL HAVE TWO DIGITAL CAMERAS ON BOARD, ONE IN THE FRONT
AND ONE IN THE REAR. THE CURRENT CAMERAS ARE OLD AND RECORD IN POOR QUALITY.
UPGRADES WILL COST ABOUT 35 HUNDRED DOLLARS PER BUS, WITH FUNDS COMING FROM THE
STATE'S SAFE SCHOOL GRANT AS WELL AS FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD.
ALSO FROM CHANNEL 7, A STRONG ODOR HAS TAKEN OVER THE TOWN OF FRIENDSHIP SINCE
LAST YEAR, AND IS HURTING BUSINESS. OWNER OF AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP SAYS THE SMELL
CAUSES HIM TO KEEP HIS DOORS CLOSED AND RUN HIS INDOOR HEATING AND AIR. HE ALSO
SAYS THE FOUL AIR GETS INTO THE VEHICLES HE REPAIRS. THE SMELL COMES FROM HOG
WASTE BEING USED AS FERTILIZER, AND IT'S FEARED TO HAVE CONTAMINATED LOCAL
CREEKS AND THE WATER SUPPLY FOLLOWING THE RECENT RAINS. PEOPLE FROM THE
COMMUNITY MET YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WITH STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS ABOUT THE
MATTER.
News from the TRN...
Last-minute tax filers rushed in to area post offices to mail their returns by
midnight. There were non-stop lines inside the lobby and the drive-through lane
at the main Post Office near the Nashville Airport. Compared to previous years,
the last-minute lines have thinned a bit. Post Office officials said that's
because more people each year file their taxes electronically.
